You Don’t Need to Know Everything

You’ve decided to build your own home — the dream, the Pinterest board, the land with a view. It should feel exciting… but instead, you’re staring at a million decisions, a stack of quotes, and a spreadsheet that doesn’t quite balance. Sound familiar?
Welcome to one of the biggest projects of your life. And yes, it can feel completely overwhelming.
It’s Okay Not to Have All the Answers
At Architecture + Design Library (ADL), we meet people like you every week — first-time builders who are determined to get it right, but aren’t sure where to start. There’s pressure to make the “right” design choices. To stay on budget. To understand the language your architect and builder speak fluently. To know what tiles go with what tapware, or whether you really need underfloor heating. It’s a lot. And that’s why we created ADL.
We Created ADL Because We Were You
The founders of AD Library are interior designers who were frustrated by the lack of accessible resources — especially here in Wānaka. So we built what we wish we’d had when we started out — a shared space full of inspiration, guidance, and people who genuinely want to help.
Here’s how we support first-time builders like you:
1. A Calm, Curated Sample Library
No more driving all over town collecting brochures. Come in, sit down, and browse a beautifully curated collection of materials from trusted brands — tiles, tapware, timber flooring, cabinetry, lighting, and more — all in one place.
2. Real People, Real Help
Have questions? We’re not a showroom — we’re a community. Our team and members include interior designers, builders, architects, and engineers who can answer questions without the upsell. We love nothing more than helping people feel confident in their decisions.
3. Help Finding the Right Solutions
If you're not sure where to go for plumbing supplies, eco-friendly finishes, or kitchen design — we can help point you in the right direction. We have access to a wide network of trusted suppliers, consultants, and local professionals. Book a consult with us and we’ll help connect you with the right people and products for your project.
4. Space to Think
Design decisions shouldn’t be rushed in the middle of a hardware store. Our private meeting spaces give you time and headspace to think clearly, review plans, and make thoughtful decisions. Bring your partner, your designer, your builder — or just your questions.
5. You’re Not Alone
ADL isn’t just a place. It’s a community. You’ll meet others who’ve been in your shoes — building their first home, managing a tight budget, juggling deadlines. You’ll feel seen. You’ll feel supported. And you might even enjoy the process again.
Let’s Take the Overwhelm Away
Building your home should be a joyful experience. It should reflect you. So if you're feeling lost or under pressure — come in. Book a consult. Visit during one of our open days. Or simply drop by and explore.
We’re here to make things easier, clearer, and more enjoyable. Because the journey to your dream home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Not with us by your side.
